What to Bring to a Studio Rental Session

One of the best things about renting a studio is how little you actually have to haul in. The light, the set, and the backdrops are already here. Still, a few minutes of packing the night before makes your shoot day so much smoother. Here is what to bring.

Your gear

  • Your camera and lenses, charged and cleared, with backups of both batteries and cards.
  • Any lighting you like to use. We are built around natural light, so plenty of photographers shoot with just what is here. If you prefer to add strobes or continuous lights, bring them.
  • A laptop or tablet if you like to tether or review as you go.

For your subject

  • Wardrobe and a few options. More looks give you more variety in the same session, and there is space to change between them.
  • Props or personal pieces that make the photos feel like your client. We keep styling pieces on hand, but the personal touches are yours to bring.
  • Hair and makeup, if you want it. An independent stylist works on site, so you can book them to have your subject camera ready in the building.

The little things that help

  • Water and a snack. A longer session goes better when nobody is running on empty.
  • A shot list. Knowing what you want to capture is the single best way to use every minute well.
  • Your team. Assistants, a second shooter, or just a friend to wrangle details. The room has space for a crew.

What you do not need to bring

The room itself. That means the natural light, the current styled set, backdrops, and parking out front. We also ask every renter for proof of insurance and a quick look at the studio rules when you book, so have your insurance handy and you are set.

Ready when you are
